 “Chalu Wiang Motif – Carved Elegance of Power and Faith” 

 “Chalu Wiang Motif” draws its inspiration from the intricate woodcarving designs found in the Governor’s House (Khum Chao Luang) in Phrae, a historic residence that once housed local rulers and later provincial governors. Hidden beneath its architectural beauty is a prison where justice and authority were once exercised. This motif is a tribute to “refined strength”  the grace of traditional carving paired with the hidden gravity of governance and rule.

Each swirl in the design reflects gentle elegance, while the central symmetry speaks of order, power, and control. It reminds us that true beauty is often rooted in structure, discipline, and the legacy of leadership.

  ลายฉลุลายเวียง เป็นลวดลายอัตลักษณ์ที่ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจาก ลายฉลุไม้ในคุ้มเจ้าหลวงเมืองแพร่
คุ้มหลังนี้เคยเป็นที่พำนักของเจ้าเมือง และต่อมาใช้เป็นที่ทำการของผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัด โดยมี “คุกใต้คุ้ม” ซึ่งใช้ควบคุมนักโทษในอดีต แฝงเร้นอยู่ใต้ความงามของสถาปัตยกรรมชั้นสูง

ลวดลายที่ปรากฏในผืนผ้านี้คือ การตีความ “อำนาจที่แฝงในความอ่อนโยน”
ฉลุลายอ่อนช้อย เปรียบดังความละมุนของเมืองเก่าที่โอบล้อมด้วยคุณค่า
แต่ในใจกลางของลวดลายกลับแน่นหนัก เปรียบกับศูนย์กลางอำนาจของเจ้าเมืองในอดีต

เป็นลายที่บอกว่า “ศิลป์มิได้เกิดจากความอ่อนหวานเพียงลำพัง หากเกิดจากวินัย จารีต และแรงศรัทธาที่สืบต่อกันมา

• ลายวนโค้ง (บริเวณรอบนอก) : แสดงถึงความอ่อนช้อยแบบล้านนา ความละเอียดละเมียดของงานไม้ฉลุ
   
• แกนกลางสมมาตร : สื่อถึงศูนย์กลางอำนาจและระเบียบในยุคของเจ้าเมือง
   
• ลายซ้ำแบบเรขาคณิต : เปรียบเสมือนการเชื่อมโยงกันของกฎระเบียบ ความศรัทธา และวัฒนธรรมที่สืบทอด

 “Lue Elephant & Teak Blossom Motif of Ban Thin” 

The “Lue Elephant & Teak Blossom Motif of Ban Thin” is inspired by the ancient handwoven textiles of the Tai Lue ethnic community in Ban Thin, Phrae Province, Northern Thailand. The elephant motif is a unique visual symbol that appears only in Tai Lue weaving from Phrae unlike any other Tai Lue textiles found elsewhere. It stands for strength, heritage, and the sacred bond between people and land. The teak blossom pattern, interlaced between the elephants, represents the Teak tree (Tectona grandis), which holds cultural and economic importance in the region. It is revered as a symbol of resilience, prosperity, and protection. The community’s cultural heart is Wat Ban Thin, a temple that serves not only as a religious space but also as a center of knowledge, memory, and identity for generations of Tai Lue people.

 “ลายช้างลื้อ – ดอกสักแห่งบ้านถิ่น” 

  ลายช้างลื้อ – ดอกสักแห่งบ้านถิ่น คือลวดลายที่ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจาก ผ้าทอไทลื้อโบราณ ที่สืบทอดจากรุ่นสู่รุ่นในตำบลบ้านถิ่น จังหวัดแพร่ ลายช้างที่ปรากฏในผืนผ้านั้น เป็นเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะของกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ไทลื้อในพื้นที่นี้ ซึ่งไม่พบแบบเดียวกันในไทลื้อถิ่นอื่น เป็นช้างแห่งศรัทธา ความมั่นคง และความผูกพันกับผืนแผ่นดิน “ดอกสัก” ที่สอดแทรกระหว่างลายช้าง เป็นสัญลักษณ์ของ “ต้นสัก” ไม้ยืนต้นประจำถิ่นแพร่ ซึ่งมีทั้งคุณค่าทางเศรษฐกิจและความเชื่อ ว่าต้นสักเป็นไม้มงคลอันเป็นที่พึ่งพิงของผู้คน ศูนย์กลางความรู้ของชุมชนนี้อยู่ที่ วัดบ้านถิ่น ซึ่งเป็นทั้งแหล่งเรียนรู้ ศิลปะ และจิตวิญญาณของชาวบ้านถิ่นมายาวนาน

• ลายช้างไทลื้อ – สื่อถึงพลัง ความมั่นคง และจิตวิญญาณของชุมชนไทลื้อในแพร่
   
• ลายดอกสัก – แทนธรรมชาติคู่ถิ่น รากลึกแห่งความอุดมสมบูรณ์และการพึ่งพา
   
• การจัดวางแบบสลับลาย – เปรียบเสมือนความสมดุลระหว่างร่างกาย (ช้าง) และจิตใจ (ดอกสัก)

This pattern expresses the unique cultural identity of the Tai Lue community in Ban Thin, Phrae Province.

The Elephant Motif  Symbolizes strength, heritage, and spiritual guardianship.
It reflects the Tai Lue people's connection to their ancestry and homeland.
This elephant design is exclusive to Phrae’s Tai Lue weavers, making it a rare textile identity unseen in other regions.

The Teak Blossom Represents the Teak tree, an iconic species deeply tied to Phrae’s landscape and economy. The flower is a metaphor for growth, resilience, and enduring cultural roots.

The Alternating Pattern Structure Illustrates the balance between body and spirit, between tradition and the natural world. It mirrors how the community weaves culture and craft into everyday life.

Together, these elements honor a way of life grounded in wisdom, artistry, and reverence — with Wat Ban Thin serving as the spiritual and educational anchor of the village.
